Searching for an exact phrase

To find documents containing an exact phrase, put the phrase in double inverted commas (quotation marks). This works for text searches only - both quick searches and advanced searches.

Example: "common regulatory framework"

Directive 2002/21/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 March 2002 on a common regulatory framework for electronic communications networks and services (framework directive)

Broaden your search with an asterisk (*)

An asterisk replaces any number of letters in a word. This broadens the scope of your search to include documents containing any variation of a search term. (The technique also works with characters in CELEX numbers.)

Examples

transport* -> finds documents containing transport, transportation, transporting, etc.
32017L* -> finds all directives published in 2017

A question mark replaces a single letter in a word. This broadens your search to include documents containing any variation of the search term. (The technique also works with characters in CELEX numbers.)

Examples

ca?e -> finds documents with case, cane, care, cape ...
32010?0060 -> finds legal acts with document number 60 from 2010; i.e. Commission Directive 2010/60/EU, Commission Regulation (EU) No 60/2010, ...
